HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6638 RESOLUTION NO. 6638 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DESIGNATING THE NEW STREET OF THE DOWNEY LANDING DEVELOPMENT AS "CONGRESSMAN STEVE HORN WAY" WHEREAS, former Congressman Steve Horn's Congressional career began in 1992 as the Congressman for the 38 District and cumulated with his retirement in 2002; and WHEREAS, through Congressman Steve Horn's efforts, many projects were successful in reaching their goals including the $2.4 billion Alameda Corridor express rail project, saving the McDonnell Douglas /Boeing C -17 program in the City of Long Beach, the Los Angeles County Drainage Project along the Los Angeles River ending the need for the flood insurance mandate for residents of many cities including the City of Downey; and WHEREAS, for the City of Downey, Downey Landing development project, Congressman Steve Horn helped secure a $3.6 million grant from NASA for the proposed space science learning center and facilitated the transfer of property from the Federal government to the City for the project; and WHEREAS, the Downey Landing project presents opportunities to revitalize a large piece of land that is currently underutilized, and attract a mixed and comprehensive development that will be a vital element of the community; and WHEREAS, the City of Downey commends Congressman Steve Horn's tireless effort in support of the City's Downey Landing project. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Pursuant to the authority granted by Section 34091.1 of the Government Code of the State of California, the City Council of the City of Downey hereby designates the future east /west public roadway of the Downey Landing development as "Congressman Steve Horn Way" as the name for the street. SECTION 2. That the new street is generally described as beginning at Clark Avenue on the west end of the Downey Landing site, then traverses easterly approximately 2,200 feet to Bellflower Boulevard, then intersects Bellflower Boulevard, and finally terminates approximately 500 feet at the City of Downey Department of Public Works maintenance yard and Independence Park. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall cause a copy of this Resolution to be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. RESOLUTION NO. 6 6 3 8 APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 11th day of February , 2003.
