A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY IN
SUPPORT OF THE ORANGE LINE PREDEPLOYMENT PLANNING STUDY
AND REPORT.
WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Authority is preparing to initiate the
West Orange County Project Definition Study, a follow -up study that will develop a preferred
alternative for transit improvements serving Orange County and Los Angeles County;
WHEREAS, the Gateway Cities Council of Governments, representing the cities of
Southeast Los Angeles County, is initiating pre - deployment planning of the Orange Line, a high-
speed, advanced Maglev technology transit system, along the Pacific Electric Corridor from
downtown Los Angeles to Orange County, and;
WHEREAS, the Gateway Cities Council of Governments Executive Committee affirmed
its support for inclusion of the Orange Line in both the Gateway Cities Sub - regional
Transportation Plan and the SCAG Regional Transportation Plan, and;
WHEREAS, the Orange Line offers the promise of significant transportation and
economic benefits to the City of Downey and other Gateway Cities;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Orange Line pre - deployment planning study would allow the
Gateway Cities Council of Governments, in cooperation with the City of Downey, to investigate
the feasibility of establishing a high- speed, advanced technology, Maglev transportation system
for moving people and cargo between Orange County and Los Angeles County, and to prepare a
business plan for its implementation.
SECTION 2. The Orange Line study is consistent with the goals and objectives of the
City of Downey as they relate to promoting and improving transportation and economic
development in the City of Downey.
SECTION 3. That the Council of the City of Downey hereby support the Orange Line
pre - deployment planning study and encourages the coordination of the West Orange County
Project Definition Study and the Orange Line pre - deployment planning study so that findings of
both studies can lead to development of the transportation improvements that best serve
economic and quality of life goals for the City of Downey.
