HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 6519 RESOLUTION NO. 6519 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY EXTENDING THE PAY OF CITY EMPLOYEES ON TEMPORARY MILITARY LEAVE DUE TO OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM Whereas, the United States Armed Forces have started Operation Enduring Freedom; and Whereas, President Bush has signed an order authorizing the military to call up military reservists to support Operation Enduring Freedom; and Whereas, the California Military & Veterans Code stipulates that any public employee, who is on temporary military leave, is entitled to receive his or her salary for 30 days in any one fiscal year; and Whereas, the California Military & Veterans Code allows public agencies to adopt a resolution to continue paying employee salaries beyond the 30 day period NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Any full -time City employee ordered to active military duty by the Department of Defense to support Operation Enduring Freedom shall continue to be paid his or her salary while the employee is on military leave. SECTION 2. Any full -time City employee ordered to active military duty by the Department of Defense to support Operation Enduring Freedom shall continue to receive City benefits while the employee is on military leave.
