A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY,
IN SUPPORT OF PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE UNITED STATES
CONGRESS; AND EXPRESSING SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILIES AND
ASSOCIATES OF THE VICTIMS OF THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 ACTS
OF TERRORISM AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
WHEREAS, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 have touched the lives of all
Americans; and
WHEREAS, these evil acts of terrorism will never be forgotten by the American people;
and
WHEREAS, we as Americans must support and unite behind our President and the
United States Congress.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That President Bush and the United States Congress have our united and
full support in dealing with the aftermath of this human tragedy.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor and the City Council urge all citizens to reflect on this
event and to support the difficult decisions that lay ahead for President Bush and the United
States Congress.
SECTION 3. That the Mayor and the City Council urge all residents to continue
demonstrating support for our nation by flying the American flag for 30 days following the date of
the terrorist acts, through October 10, as President Bush has recommended.
SECTION 4. That to the fullest extent possible the City Council, on behalf of the citizens
of Downey, express sympathy and the deepest sorrow to the family, friends and associates of the
victims of this evil and tragic act.
SECTION 5. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this
resolution and shall transmit copies to the United States Congressional representatives for the
City of Downey, State of California.
