HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4977 - RESOLUTION NO. 4977 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY ADOPTING CLASS SPECIFICATION AND DESIGNATING SALARY RANGE FOR PRINCIPAL WATER TECHNICIAN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: The class specification for Principal Water Technician marked as Exhibit A, and by this reference incorporated herein, is hereby adopted. SECTION 2: Exhibit I of the City of Downey Compensation Program (Part IX of the Personnel Manual) is hereby amended to include the following: Classification Title Pay Table Schedule Number Principal Water Technician 01 22 SECTION 3: Exhibit I of the City of Downey Compensation Program (Part IX of the Personnel Manual) is hereby amended to change the title of Senior Water Technician to Principal Water Technician. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and provide for appropriate distribution thereof. City C - k I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of Downey at a regular meeting hereof, held on the 9th day of February by the following vote, to wit: AYES: 5 COUNCIL MEMBERS: Barb, Cormack, Santangelo, Paul, Boggs NOES: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None ABSENT: 0 COUNCIL MEMBERS: None 410 0 4, wilkor RESOLUTION NO. 4977 EXHIBIT A City of Downey Class Specification Personnel Department December, 1987 PRINCIPAL WATER TECHNICIAN DEFINITION Under supervision of the Water /Sanitation Superintendent; is responsible for complicated engineering work related to planning, design, construction, and acceptance of water system improvements; is responsible for cross - connection inspection and control throughout the City. OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTIES 1. Civil Engineering 2. Laws and regulatory codes relevant to a municipal water system 3. Water technology TYPICAL DUTIES The duties for this position may include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Prepare complex engineering studies and reports 2. Prepare preliminary and final calculation plans for water system improvements 3. Prepare cost estimates, schedules and specifications, order material, maintain inventory records 4. Prepare and administer engineering services contracts with consulting engineers 5. Reviews compliance of consulting engineers and contractors with contract documents 6. Assist in budget and capital improvement plan preparation and administration 7. Design and draw plans for water system improvements; maintain maps and records; inspect construction of water system improvements 8. Administer cross - connection program, including inspection, notification, and record maintenance 9. Sample wells and water system for various testing 10. Receive and answer public inquiries and complaints 11. Perform other job related duties as required RESOLUTION NO. 4977 DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: EXPERIENCE: Five years of progressively responsible experience in hydrology and /or water utility planning, coordinating, engineering, and cross - connection inspection. EDUCATION: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field, supplimented with course work in water technology. KNOWLEDGE: 1. Principles and practices of water utility operations, management, and organization 2. Principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to the field of water engineering 3. Methods, materials, techniques and equipment used in construction and operation of a water utility 4. Applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design, construction and operation of a municipal water system 5. Cross - connection inspection, laws, regulations, and requirements ABILITY: 1. Work with minimum supervision 2. Perform and review complex engineering computations related to design and operation of water facilities 3. Prepare technical reports, budget projections, and other administrative documents 4. Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and writing 5. Maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: 1. Valid California driver's license 2.
