A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
ESTABLISHING THAT THE CITY OFFICES SHALL REMAIN OPEN TO
THE PUBLIC ON THE STATE - PROCLAIMED HOLIDAY OF MARTIN
LUTHER KING, JR. DAY WHICH IS THE THIRD MONDAY IN JANUARY.
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California has proclaimed the
third Monday of January in 1984 and succeeding years as a holiday for employees
of the State of California in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; and
WHEREAS, Section 2722 of the City of Downey Municipal Code provides that
the State- proclaimed holidays upon which the City's offices shall remain open
shall be established by resolution of the City Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Inasmuch as the memoranda of understanding between the City
and its recognized bargaining units do not provide for a paid holiday for
Martin Luther King, Jr.. Day, the City offices shall remain open to the public
on the third Monday of January in 1984 and succeeding years known as Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and provide for appropriate distribution thereof.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was approved and adopted
at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Downey held on the
27th day of December , 1983, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: 5 Council Members: Jackman, Davila, Barb, Quinn, Cormack
