A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DOWNEY OPPOSING ANY ADDITIONAL REDUCTION
OF STATE SUBVENTIONS AND SUPPORTING SB 1477
WHEREAS, any additional loss of State subventions
would seriously impair the health and welfare of the
citizens of Downey; and
WHEREAS, the City has no way of replacing any
additional subventions lost; and
WHEREAS, the State has power to raise additional
revenue; and
WHEREAS, the State has already reduced subventions
in excess of the bail -out received from the State; and
WHEREAS, such loss of subventions would force the
City to curtail critical services such as police and
fire; and
WHEREAS, since Proposition 13 the City has already
reduced services far in excess of any State reductions.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That this City Council declares its
vigorous opposition to any further reduction of State
subventions.
SECTION 2. That the City Council urges the State
Legislature to either raise additional revenues to
balance the State Budget or reduce services to bring
the State Budget into balance.
SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to
the adoption of this Resolution and provide for appropriate
distribution thereof.

regular meeting thereof held on the 25th day of May
1982, by the following vote, to wit:
