RESOLUTION NO. 4078
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOWNEY COMMENDING THE ALL AMERICAN HOME CENTER AS
A RECIPIENT OF THE "AWARD OF SPECIAL DISTINCTION."
WHEREAS, the "Award of Special Distinction" is the highest tribute that
the Have Center Institute can present; and
WHEREAS, President Irving Gertler, his wife, and their son, Leonard
Gertler, Vice President of the All American Home Center will be re-
ceiving the "Home Center of the Year" award at a special ceremony
during the Annual Home Center Convention in Chicago on March 15, 1982;
and
WHEREAS, this Award is being presented because of the unique position
All American Home Center holds in an industry which has been one of
the fastest growing retail segments during the past 20 years; and
WHEREAS, All American Home Center was the first Home Center in the
United States and is now the largest in the country with the largest
and most complete inventory and the highest sales volume of any store
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, another major factor for winning this award is the high
quality of their 200 employees who are considered to be the most
highly trained and most knowledgeable in the country; and
WHEREAS, the All American Home Center has become a mecca for people
in the Home Center industry from around the world. They have had
tours of industry people from every country in the free world as well
as visits from all the major Home Center operators in the United
States.
NOW, THEREFORE, The City Council of the City of Downey does hereby
resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That this City Council extends its appre-
ciation and commendation to the Gertler family which has remained
what they were twenty -two years ago, a single store operation with
three generations active in the operation of the business.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution and provide for its preparation for presentatation to
the ALL AMERICAN HOME CENTER.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of March, 1982.
