HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 4000 RESOLUTION NO. 4000 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY COMMENDING MRS. OPAL HENN AS A RECIPIENT OF THE DOWNEY EXCHANGE CLUB'S BOOK OF GOLDEN DEEDS WHEREAS, OPAL HENN was born in Redlands, California, and moved to Downey, California, in 1930, where she attended Junior High School and graduated from Downey High School; and WHEREAS, OPAL HENN has the signal honor of being the very first "Miss Downey" and held that distinction until the late 1950's; and WHEREAS, OPAL HENN and her husband, BEN, have been very loyal and active citizens in the City of Downey, serving on various boards and committees and volunteering their services to the community; and WHEREAS, OPAN HENN is a warm, lovely human being and as one who is happy helping her fellowman, is active in the following clubs and projects: Board Member of the Heart Association of Los Angeles County; Treasurer of Downey City Beautiful Committee; helped with Fund Raisers and Special Events in the Downey Chamber of Commerce; Centennial Flag Day Celebration; Charter Member of the Quota Club of Downey International; Committee Chair- man for Robbie Diaz; Deaf Olympic Fund; Chairman of the Downey Pioneer Picnic; Downey Republican Women Federated and Downey Rainbow Girls #198; Member of Downey Rose Float Association; and WHEREAS, OPAL HENN was appointed as the Official Chaperon for Miss Downey and her Court in 1976, a position she still holds - helping Miss Downey and her Court in their civic activities and escorting the Queen to Guadalajara, Mexico, and to the Tournament of Roses Parade. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That this City Council extends its congratulations and commendation to MRS. OPAL HENN for her contribution to our community. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this llth day of August, 1981.
