HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3805 RESOLUTION NO. 3805 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY EXPRESSING CONCERN OVER WORLDWIDE HUNGER, MALNUTRITION, AND STARVATION WHEREAS, today 28 people die every minute from hunger, 21 of them children under the age of 5. 120,000 deaths occur every three days from hunger. Hunger has taken more lives in the past five years then all the wars, revolutions, and murders for the last 150 years; and WHEREAS, the National Academy of Sciences reported in 1977 that there is no scarcity of food, technology, or resources to eradicate hunger from the earth, and that the goal can be achieved by the year 2,000; and WHEREAS, the National Academy of Sciences and the Presidential Commission on World Hunger state that all that is missing to end world hunger is the GLOBAL COMMITMENT or WILL TO END IT. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey expresses its concern for the seriousness of the problem of hunger, malnutrition, and starvation world -wide, and urges the equally concerned citizens of the City to take whatever steps they feel appropriate in attempting to resolve this serious problem. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and provide for appropriate distribution thereof. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of June, 1980. 1 4 6, f � Theodore H.
