A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
RECOMMENDING THAT THE MEMBERS OF THE CONGRESS OF THE
UNITED STATES REFRAIN FROM APPROVING A SALARY INCREASE
FOR SAID MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
WHEREAS, the Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill, HR 4390,
contains a seven percent cost of living increase for Federal Employees,
Members of Congress and Congressional staff and judges; and
WHEREAS, if the Congress of the United States does not vote on
the Bill; it will automatically take effect.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City of Downey strongly recommends that Congress
exempt Members of Congress from any cost of living increase.
SECTION 2. That a conformed copy of this Resolution shall be
sent to Congressman Wayne Grisham, Senator Alan Cranston and Senator
S. I. Hayakawa.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of September, 1979.
