HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3636 RESOLUTION NO. 3636 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO AWARD ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL FRANCHISE TO THE LOS ANGELES MEMORIAL COLISEUM, EITHER AN EXPANSION TEAM OR AN EXISTING CLUB. WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Rams have played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for more than 30 years and have received the strong support of seven million citizens of the 80 cities and unincorporated communities of Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is in the center of population of Los Angeles County and is universally regarded as being one of the outstanding football stadiums in America; and WHEREAS, the Los Angeles Rams have announced their intention to move from the Coliseum to Anaheim Stadium in Orange County; and WHEREAS, such a move would deprive the people of Los Angeles County, who have been strong supporters of the National Football League, of enjoying professional football; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Downey urges the National Football League to award another professional franchise to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, either an expansion team or an existing club; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be instructed to send copies of this resolution to National Football League Commissioner Pete Roselle.
