A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
REQUESTING THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION TO
RE- EVALUATE CERTAIN STREET LIGHTING RATES AND TO DENY
A REQUESTED RATE INCREASE BY THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
EDISON COMPANY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Whereas, the impact of Proposition No. 13 has been to severely
limit revenues available to local governments historically received from the
ad valorem tax; and
WHEREAS, the City, as part of its conservation program, intends to provide
for the conversion of mercury vapor and incandescent street lights to the more
efficient High Pressure sodium vapor street lights; and
WHEREAS, the continued operation of street lights is necessary for the safety
and convenience of the public; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Edison Company will receive significant
property tax reductions under Proposition No. 13;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Public Utilities Commission is requested
to:
I
1) Deny the pending fifteen percent (15/0) rate increase,
2) Re- evaluate the current rates for High Pressure Sodium street lights,
3) Re- evaluate the current rates for midnight service.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall notify the Public Utilities Commission and
the Southern California Edison Company of this action.
