HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3353 Resolution No. 3353 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING CLASSIFICATION OF TRANSIT WORKERS AS PUBLIC EMPLOYEES AND SUPPORTING OPEN LABOR NEGOTIATIONS FOR TRANSIT DISTRICTS WHEREAS, transit districts are publically owned and in the case of the Southern California Rapid Transit District taxpayers provide two out of every three operating dollars; and WHEREAS, it is therefore appropriate that transit employees be prohibited from striking, in the same manner as are other public employees; and WHEREAS, the public interest requires open labor negotiations so that the public may perceive and comment on the issues involved in such negotiations; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION. 1. That this City Council endorses and supports legislative reclassification of transit employees as public employees. SECTION 2. That this City Council supports legislation provision for open labor negotiations in transit districts. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify and provide for appropriate distribution, including Downey's state legislators and Southern California Rapid Transit District's Board of Directors.
