HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3236 RESOLUTION NO. 3236 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING RETENTION OF THE HOLLYWOOD - BURBANK AIRPORT WHEREAS, we are informed that Lockheed Aircraft intends to sell the Hollywood- Burbank Airport; and WHEREAS, the City of Burbank is endeavoring to arrange retention of the Hollywood- Burbank Airport; and ~ WHEREAS, loss of the Hollywood- Burbank Airport would compel other fields to serve the 1.7 million passengers plus freight which were served by Hollywood - Burbank in 1975; and WHEREAS, Downey is in the flight path of the Los Angeles Inter- national Airport, having already witnessed one major air crash in Norwalk; and WHEREAS, added air traffic over Downey will increase the hazards of crash air pollution and noise to Downey citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City and County of Los Angeles be urged to financially assist Burbank in an Environmental Impact Assessment Report. SECTION 2. That Lockheed Aircraft Corporation be urged not to sell this facility for other than airport purposes. SECTION 3. That our national representatives and the Federal Aviation Administration be notified of the need to retain this facility. SECTION 4. That the City Clerk be directed to send this Resolution to each of the above entities. SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
