HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 3231 RESOLUTION NO. 3231 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY PROVIDING THAT THE PROPOSED DOWNEY CITY CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 1 BE SUBMITTED TO A VOTE OF THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF SAID CITY AT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN SAID CITY ON THE 13TH DAY OF APRIL, 1976 THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The following Downey City Charter Amendment hereby is proposed to be submitted to the qualified electors of the City of Downey at the General Municipal Election to be held in said City on the 13th day of April, 1976. Said Downey City Charter Amendment is as follows - Downey City Charter Amendment No. 1. Shall Section 501 of the Downey Charter be amended to read as follows: "Section 501. Eligibility. No person shall be eligible to hold office as a member of the City Council unless he is, at the time of filing his nominating papers or equivalent declaration of candidacy, a resident and qualified elector of the city and has been so for a period of not less than 30 days next preceding such date of filing, and a resident and qualified elector of the district from which he is elected or appointed at the time of filing his nominating papers or equivalent decla- ration of candidacy and for a period of not less than 30 days next preceding such date of filing." SECTION 2. The City Clerk hereby is authorized and directed to publish a notice containing said proposed Downey City Charter Amendment set forth in this Resolution, together with the date fixed in this Resolution for the holding of said General Municipal Election, to wit: the 13th day of April, 1976, in the Southeast News which is hereby designated as the official newspaper of the City of Downey for the publication of such notice. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall cause copies of the Charter Amendment proposed by this Resolution to be printed in a convenient pamphlet form and in type of not less than ten, and shall cause copies to be mailed to each of the qualified electors of said City, and the City Clerk shall to the date fixed in this Resolution for the holding of said General Municipal Election continuously advertise in one or more newspapers of general circulation in said City a notice that such copies may be had upon application therefor. SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 12th day of January, 1976. C R , Jsph o E.
