HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2945 RESOLUTION NO. 2945 i A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY SUPPORTING THE BID OF THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES j TO STAGE THE SUMMER GAMES OF THE XXII OLYMPIAD IN 1980 WHEREAS, the City of Los Angeles has submitted a bid to the International Olympic Committee for permission to stage the Summer Games of the XXII Olympiad in Los Angeles in 1980; and I 1 WHEREAS, The City's bid has received the endorsement of the President of the United States, the Governor of California, the United States Olympic Committee, and the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games; and WHEREAS, in its bid for the 1976 Games, the City was able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the International Olympic Committee that our area possesses all the sports facilities which j would be needed to stage the Summer Olympic Games; and WHEREAS, Staging of the Games in Los Angeles would not only promote the spirit of the Olympic Movement but would also enhance the stature of our region by placing it in the role of host to the world; and WHEREAS, the 1932 Summer Olympic Games which were staged in � Games, g Los Angeles, were a huge success and brought worldwide favorable attention to our region as a tourist attraction: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Downey, encourages and supports the bid of the City of Los Angeles to stage the Summer Games of the XXII Olympiad in 1980.
