HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2932 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2932 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY ENDORSING OPEN MEETINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE (Proposition 6) 1 WHEREAS, Proposition 6 has been proposed to amend the i California Constitution providing that all proceedings of each House of the Legislature and Committees thereof shall be public except as provided by statute or concurrent resolution; and WHEREAS, the "Grunsky- Burton Open Meeting Act ", a related statute, provides that all meetings of the Houses of the Legislature as well as the Committees and Subcommittees on the budget shall be public except for executive sessions regarding the appointment of Committees, the appointment or dismissal of employees, the assignment of bills and internal House security; and WHEREAS, the Legislature, in its wisdom, has by enacting the Brown Act, enunciated as public policy the principle that legislative business shall be conducted in a public manner; and WHEREAS, it_ is the belief of this City Council that such a commendable principle should also apply to those who enacted it. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That this City Council hereby endorses and -- supports open meetings of the Legislature (Proposition 6) and calls on all Californians to cast a YES vote for Proposition 6 on June 4th. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and appropriate distribution thereof. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 8th day • April , 1974. r • Ric and M.
