HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2666 RESOLUTION NO. 2666 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING ADOPTION OF REVENUE SHARING WHEREAS, urban problems and the commensurate demand for municipal service has increased vastly over the past decade, and such demands are anticipated to increase still further in the future; and WHEREAS, local tax resources are proving inadequate to the demands being placed upon them due to inflation as well as urban problems; and WHEREAS, the Federal tax system is able to expand with inflationary trends, possesses greater efficiency of collection and proceeds from a vastly broader base; and WHEREAS, home rule is critically important to the survival of our form of government; and WHEREAS, categorical grant programs require unnecessarily complica- ted justifications and meeting of the Federal rather than local needs; and WHEREAS, an equitable revenue sharing proposal will recognize the differing needs of local communities and provide an efficient, easily controlled and effective means of meeting pressing urban problems. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That this City Council vigorously supports favorable Congressional consideration of an equitable Revenue Sharing Program. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and shall provide for appropriate distribution thereof. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 13th day of March, 1972.
