HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2630 RESOLUTION NO. 2630 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY HONORING ELGIN BAYLOR WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor was born on September 16, 1934 in Washington, D.C. and attended the University of Seattle in Seattle, Washington; and WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor made his professional debut with the Minneapolis Lakers during the 1958 -59 season and became the third rookie in the history of the league to make the All NBA team; and WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor has always made himself available to speak to young people and has always been vitally interested in their welfare; and WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor has accomplished the following all -time NBA records for a regular game: Most Points One Game by a Forward 71 Most Times Selected First Team A11 -Pro 10; and WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor has accomplished the following championship playoff records: Career -Most Field Goals Made 1,388 Career -Most Field Goals Attempted 3,151 Game -Most Points Ever Scored 61 Game -Most Points - Half 33 Game -Most Field Goals Attempted - Half 25; and WHEREAS, Elgin Baylor is now retiring after thirteen years as a pro- fessional basketball player to work in public relations and scouting for the Los Angeles Lakers. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That this City Council does hereby extend its commendation and best wishes for continued success to Elgin Baylor. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and cause a certified copy to be delivered to Mr. Elgin Baylor.
