A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
OPPOSING THE PRESENT AND PROPOSED BOUNDARIES FOR THE
30TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT
WHEREAS, a proposal has been made in the California State Legislature
to reapportion the 30th Senatorial District, extending the District to the
San Bernardino and Orange County lines; and
WHEREAS, the proposed District would include areas not at all similar
to Downey under any stretch of the imagination; and
WHEREAS, this discontinuity would result in the election of a Senator
who could not adequately represent the wishes of the people of Downey; and
WHEREAS, the existing Senatorial boundaries also include areas which
are totally dissimilar from Downey and have resulted in representation
which is not necessarily responsive to the wishes of the people of this
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That this City Council opposes both the present and the
proposed boundaries for the 30th Senatorial District.
SECTION 2. That this City Council urges the State Legislature to
establish boundaries for the 30th Senatorial District which will include
all of Downey within one district and will also include contiguous and
compact areas with similar development, similar density, and similar needs
to the City of Downey.
_ SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Resolution.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of November, 1971.
