HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2550 RESOLUTION NO. 2550 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING WITHDRAWAL OF SENATE BILL 1174, OR AMEND THE BILL SO AS TO EFFECTIVELY EXCLUDE DOWNEY WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of California in 1970 has wisely provided reasonable latitude for cities to expend reasonable portions of gas tax funds pursuant to Sections 2106 and 2107 of the Street and Highway Code on local streets in view of the serious deficiencies existing in many cities of the streets vis -a -vis select system streets; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1174 which has been introduced by Senator Walsh, would eliminate this farsighted legislative provision; and WHEREAS, the funds in question are critically needed for necessary maintenance of residential streets in order to maintain this city's balanced program of street maintenance; and WHEREAS, the homeowners of the City of Downey will be penalized if gas tax funds are restricted to select system streets. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That this City Council does hereby urge Senator Lawrence Walsh to withdraw Senate Bill 1174 or amend it so as to effectly exclude Downey and all municipal governments. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall provide for appropriate distribution thereof. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 14th day of June, 1971.
