HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2534 RESOLUTION NO. 2534 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY COMMENDING THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE FOR INCLUDING LOCAL REPRESENTATION ON WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARDS AND URGING THAT THIS CONSTRUCTION ARRANGEMENT BE MAINTAINED WHEREAS, the California State Legislature has seen fit to establish Regional Water Quality Control Boards for the conservation and distribu- -- tion of pure water and for the recreational use of water; and WHEREAS, the Legislature has most wisely included representatives of municipal governments on such boards; and WHEREAS, this practice is in keeping with the foundations of American Government and the California Constitution which provide for local home rule and representation in matters affecting cities; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 11 has been introduced by Assemblyman Roberti which would remove municipal representation from Water Quality Control Boards; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Downey feels strongly that local representation is in the best interests of the State of California as well as the municipalities and people thereof. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. That this City Council strongly urges that Assembly Bill 11 not be passed. SECTION II. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall transmit certified copies thereof to Downey's representatives in the State Assembly and the members of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization.
