HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2533 RESOLUTION NO. 2533 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY RELATING TO IMPORTATION OF FOREIGN -MADE PRODUCTS WHEREAS, sales of foreign automobiles in the Western States now total 60% of total automobile sales; and WHEREAS, the unemployment rate in California is now 7.1 %; and WHEREAS, American Automobile Manufacturers are contributing to this critical condition by financing foreign automobile manufacturers and importing foreign automobiles and parts; and WHEREAS, countless thousands of American Workers are unemployed due to foreign imports; and WHEREAS, the economy of our area and our country have suffered due, in a great part, to imported foreign products. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey urges the President of the United States and our United States Senators and Congressmen to impose the same safety and smog requirements on foreign automobiles that are imposed on American made automobiles. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and shall cause certified copies thereof to be forwarded to the President of the United States and United States Senators and Congressmen representing this community.
