HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2525 RESOLUTION NO. 2525 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING LEGISLATION TO AMEND THE INSURANCE CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, there has been introduced in the State legislature a bill to amend the Insurance Code of the State of California to include earth- quake damage in basic property insurance coverage; and WHEREAS, if enacted, said bill would make such coverage available to the citizens of the State at reasonable rates; and WHEREAS, in view of the recent earthquake catastrophe and damage and the refusal of the insurance companies to provide adequate earthquake insurance to those citizens desiring same, thus causing those citizens to suffer a complete loss of their life savings and everything they have worked for during their lifetime; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Downey does hereby strongly urge the enactment of such bill to amend the Insurance Code of the State of California to include earthquake damage in basic property insurance coverage, as an added protection to the citizens of our State. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and provide for distribution to Governor Ronald Reagan; to our State representatives; to the League of California Cities; and to all cities in the County of Los Angeles.
