HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1978 RESOLUTION NO. /l/// A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY SUPPORTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS AND URGING THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO ADOPT SAID RECOMMENDATION OF SAID HIGHWAY ROUTE NO. 42 IDENTIFIED AS THE GREEN - ORANGE ROUTE LYING IN THE SOUTHERLY PART OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY WHEREAS, the State Division of Highways has conducted nine surveys for the location of the Century Freeway (State Highway Route 42) from Central Avenue to the eastern terminus at Highway 605 (San Gabriel Freeway); and WHEREAS, after considered and complete analysis and study of the above routes and a Public Hearing attended by over 1100 people in South Gate on March 30, 1967, the Department of Public Works, State Division of Highways, has formally recommended to the California Highway Commission that the southerly route, known as the "GREEN - ORANGE LINE" be formally adopted as having more advantages and less disturbance to the cities and people affected than any of the other routes; and WHEREAS, this Green - Orange southerly route has been supported by the Cities of Lynwood, South Gate, Paramount, Bellflower and Santa Fe Springs, as well as the Downey Chamber of Commerce, Downey Board of Realtors and the Downey Board of Education with a slight modification; and WHEREAS, this recommendation for the adoption of the southerly route, known as the Green - Orange route, was formally presented to the State Highway Commission on Thursday, September 21, through a formal presentation to the Commission, outlining the advantages of the green- orange southerly route; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey does formally support the recommendation, as submitted by the Department of Public Works, State Division of Highways, and that a copy of this Resolution will be sent to the State Highway Commission, the Cities of Lynwood, South Gate, Compton, Santa Fe Springs, Bellflower, Paramount; the Downey Unified School District, Downey Chamber of Commerce, Downey Board of Realtors. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of September, 1967.
