HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1924 Q 28&3 RESOLUTION NO. 1924 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION AS TO THE FEASIBILITY OF WIDENING THE IMPERIAL HIGHWAY BRIDGE CROSSING THE SAN GABRIEL RIVER WHEREAS, the City of Downey and the City of Norwalk are both experiencing severe traffic congestion during the peak traffic periods at the Imperial Highway bridge crossing the San Gabriel River; and WHEREAS, such congestion results from the fact that the three eastbound and the three westbound lanes of Imperial Highway are reduced at the bridge crossing to only two lanes in either direction; and WHEREAS, said bridge is located entirely within the City of Downey; and WHEREAS, Imperial Highway is a County arterial highway; and WHEREAS, it is in the best public interest that said bridge crossing be widened in order to eliminate a traffic bottleneck and alleviate the traffic congestion occurring along Imperial Highway; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey does hereby petition the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to conduct an investigation or study to determine the feasibility of widening Imperial Highway bridge cross- ing at the San Gabriel River and to provide County assistance in effecting such bridge widening in the event the results of such study or investigation indicate that the proposed widening is feasible and necessary. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of the foregoing resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of June, 1967. -7 / ,' r ,. I/fV 4 Mayor ATTEST: City.
