RESOLUTION NO. f /7
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
STATING OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED CHANGES IN THE ROUTE
90 (SLAUSON FREEWAY)
WHEREAS, the California Legislature has adopted a Master Plan of Freeways;
and
_ WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 256 of the Streets & Highways
Code, this Master Plan is reviewed every four years; and
WHEREAS, in 1965 the Legislature did review the System as required by law
and extended the Route 90 Freeway (Slauson Freeway) easterly from the Route 605
Freeway to the Route 42 Freeway in Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the Route 90 Freeway is of paramount importance to the Southeastern
section of the Los Angeles Metropolitan area, including the City of Downey; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 718, which has been introduced at the current legisla-
tive session, would delete a portion of the Route 9a (Slauson Freeway) from
Sepulveda Boulevard to Route 11 (Harbor Freeway);
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That Senate Bill 718 is not in the best interest of the travel-
ing public and that such a gap in the Freeway would negate the benefits of the
entire system. Therefore, the City Council is in opposition to this bill.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolu-
tion and transmit certified copies thereof to Senator Randolph Collier, Chairman
Senate Transportation Committee; Senator Lawrence Walsh; Senator Joseph Kennick;
Assemblyman Carley Porter; Assemblyman Floyd Wakefield; Assemblyman Jack Fenton;
Assemblyman John Foran, Chairman, Assembly Transportation Committee; and to the
Division of Highways.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 25th day of April, 1967.
