RESOLUTION NO. 1855 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY COMMENDING GOVERNOR RONALD REAGAN AND HIS ADMINISTRATION FOR THEIR FORTHRIGHT APPROACH TO THE PROBLEMS AND FUTURE PROGRAMS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, Governor Ronald Reagan was inaugurated on January 2, 1967, as the thirty -third Governor of the State of California; and WHEREAS, Governor Reagan's objective and dynamic approach and reforms to State government are set forth under a principal of matching the State's spending to its income; and WHEREAS, of primary concern to all people in local government are his comments relative to clarifying the State's pre - emption in local law enforce- ment in the return of this responsibility to local government; and WHEREAS, his program to utilize private resources to provide jobs for the unemployed, and to put recipients of welfare to work in public institutions, will constitute marked improvement in the welfare program of our State and the rehabilitation and self- respect of the individual in the performing of a useful service; and WHEREAS, his approach to those enrolled in our State Universities and their right of freedom in studies on the campus should be restricted to academic purposes, and those who are not willing to adhere to constituted authority should seek their education elsewhere; and WHEREAS, in his program of fiscal stability for the State is included property tax relief; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Downey City Council, in regular session, on Monday, January 9, 1967, commends Governor Reagan and his administra- tion for this forthright approach to the problems and future programs of our State and, also, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Downey City Council pledges its support to the Governor in every manner possible to see that these programs are implemented and carried forward to the advantage of all the citizens of the State of California.
