RESOLUTION NO. /7, i
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
URGING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED NEW TELEPHONE
DIRECTORIES
WHEREAS, the General Telephone Company and the Pacific Telephone and
Telegraph Company have requested of the Public Utilities Commission that the
southern section of the telephone directory be divided into four directories;
— and
WHEREAS, this change is proposed to be made without public hearings; and
WHEREAS, by this change the Downey yellow pages area would gain Compton,
Lynwood and Paramount; but lose those portions of South Gate, Bell Gardens,
Commerce, Pico Rivera, and Santa Fe Springs which it now includes; and
WHEREAS, this change would thereby eliminate the cities immediately sur-
rounding Downey to the north, requiring additional expense for classified
listings for classified operations in order to serve the cities immediately
surrounding Downey; and
WHEREAS, it is the feeling of this City Council that the business com-
munity should be allowed to voice its feeling on this proposal so that the
Commission may be fully advised of expenses that may be involved, as well as
any possible inconvenience to business and resident subscribers.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Public Utilities Commission of the State of Calif-
ornia be respectfully requested to open the subject proposal to public
hearing with adequate notice to all interested parties.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolu-
tion and shall provide for appropriate distribution thereof.
