HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1770 RESOLUTION NO./770 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY CONCERNING MAIL BOXES WHEREAS, the Post Office Department has a regulation requiring that all new subdivisions maintain rural type curb -side or property line mailboxes, and has stopped all door delivery to new housing de- velopments; and WHEREAS, the attractiveness and stability of values of our new sub - divisions depends upon the elimination of poles and signs of all types; and WHEREAS, the inconvenience to our residences created by curb -side mail boxes is not desirable; and WHEREAS, the curb -side mail box does not afford the same protection to mail as does delivery to the front door, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE: SECTION 1. That curb side or property line postal service is not in the best interests of community health, safety, con - venience, and attractiveness. SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Downey does hereby petition the U.S.Post Office Department to rescind the regulation which prohibits door delivery service. SECTION 3. The City Clerk of the City Council shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
