A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
REQUESTING 'HIGHWAY THROUGH CITIES" COUNTY AID FUNDS ON
DOWNEY AVENUE
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Downey has undertaken a program
to widen and improve Downey Avenue, between the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks
south of Firestone Boulevard and Gallatin Road, by the acquisition of additional
rights of way, and by the construction of curb, gutter, paving, drainage structures,
and appurtenant construction; and
WHEREAS, Downey Avenue, between Cherokee Drive and Gallatin Road, has been
widened and improved, and Downey Avenue, between 5th Street and Cherokee Drive, is
now in the process of being widened; and
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has allocated $100,000 for the widening of
Downey Avenue, between the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks woutherly of Firestone
and 5th Street, from the 1966 -67 budget;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is hereby requested that the County of Los Angeles participate
in the financing of the hereinafter specified street improvement by "Highway
Through Cities" County Aid Funds, and advance to the City of Downey the amount of
aid specified for the project described below. The nature of the project and the
estimated cost thereof, and the reasons for the improvement are set forth herein-
after;
a. Widening and reconstruction of Downey Avenue, between the Southern
Pacific Railroad tracks southerly of Firestone Boulevard and 5th Street.
i. This project entails the acquisition of rights of way, the
construction, reconstruction of curb, gutter, cross gutter,
traffic signal, and drainage structures, to complete approx-
imately 0.36 miles of street improvement.
ii. It is proposed that the construction will be accomplished by
contract resulting from competitive bid procedure.
iii. The total estimated cost of right of way acquisition and con-
struction, amounts to approximately $500,000, $200,000 of
which is requested from "Highway Through Cities" County Aid
Funds, for right of way acquisition and construction, includ-
ing the $100,000 already allocated for the 1966 -67 fiscal
year. The additional funds will be budgeted by the City.
iv. Downey Avenue is shown on the Master Plan of Streets & Highways
as being a secondary highway, from 80 to 84 feet, with additional
right of way yet to be acquired.
SECTION 2. The project described above has been found, and it is hereby
determined to be of general Los Angeles County interest.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of thistesolution
and forward a certified copy thereof to the County Board of Supervisors, and trans-
mit two certified copies to the Department of Public Works for transmission to the
County Road Commissioner.
