RESOLUTION /5
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
ADOPTING A MERIT LONGEVITY PROGRAM
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That. $ certain document entitled "City of Downey Personnel
Manual" be and the same /hereby amended by adding a new Section fourteen
(14) to Procedure six (6) on page 23 thereof as follows:
"Section 14. Upon approval of the appointing power,
permanent employees who have completed ten years of
satisfactory service may be paid, in addition to their
respectively regularly prescribed salary, a monthly
amount equal to 22 percent of their monthly base salary;
after 15 years of such service, 5 percent of such salary;
and after 20 years 72 percent of such salary. Said pay-
ments may be divided for payroll purposes. Merit Longevity
is to provide a continuing incentive to career employees. Such
payments shall continue, with the approval of the City
Manager, or the City Council in the case of the City Manager,
only during such period as an eligible employee continues to
perform the highest quality of public service, as evidenced
by performance ratings submitted by the appointing power at
least annually, and may be terminated at any time by the City
Manager, or the City Council in the case of the City Manager,
when the quality of service as evidenced by the performance
rating of such employee does not merit such additional com-
pensation."
SECTION 2. This provision shall become effective on January 1, 1966.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.
