HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1511 RESOLUTION NO. /5// / A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILLS NO. 87 AND NO. 207 RELATIVE TO INDECENT LITERATURE WHEREAS, the City Council, by unanimous action on December 14, 1964, voted to support the present drive against indecent and porno- graphic literature, said action resulting from the presentation of petitions bearing over 4,000 signatures and supported by many service clubs and organizations of the City of Downey; and WHEREAS, the City Council instructed the Chief of Police to work very closely with the Citizens Committees and members of the City Council effecting every means possible to eliminate this type of indecent and undesirable literature; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill #87 stipulates fines and imprisonments for violating Section 311.2 of the Penal Code relative to the distribution of morally corruptive matter to the minors; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill #207 would further clarify the classifica- tions of obscenity under the Penal Code, Section 311. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. To strongly support the Assembly Bills #87 and #207 now under study in the current Legislative session. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this i•••. resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of January, 1965.
