A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
ADOPTING A CLASS SPECIFICATION AND DESIGNATING A SALARY
RANGE FOR FIRE EDUCATION SPECIALIST AND ADJUSTING THE
SALARY RANGE FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIAL /FIRE INSPECTOR.
.--.. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The class specification for the position of Fire Education
Specialist (attached), and by this reference incorporated herein, is hereby
adopted.
SECTION 2. Effective November 27, 1990, Exhibit I of the City of Downey
Compensation Program (Part IX of the Personnel Manual) is hereby amended to
include the following:
Classification Title Pay Table Schedule No
Fire Education Specialist 01 21.5
Hazardous Material /Fire Inspector 01 28.0
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of November, 1990.

Adopted:
FIRE EDUCATION SPECIALIST
DEFINITION
Under the direct supervision of the Fire Department management /super-
visory staff, coordinates the Department's overall Fire and Life Safety
Educations program.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Create, develop and present Fire and Life Safety Education programs.

Present safety education programs to civic groups, schools, service
organizations and business /industrial groups.
Prepare news releases, pamphlets, slide shows and other informational
materials.
Coordinate the publicity of programs through various media sources and
other channels.
Assist in training department personnel in fire safety education.
Perform non - detailed fire prevention and business license inspection and
follow -up.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
.-. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely
provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities would be
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills, knowledge and abilities
would be:
Experience: At least one (1) year experience in the design and
presentation of educational and /or public information
programs.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications,
education or related fields.
Knowledge of: Fire prevention and safety principles and practices;
recordkeeping procedures.
Ability to: Design, organize and present programs to the public;
effectively communicate both orally and in writing; keep
Fire Education Specialist
accurate records.
License Required: Valid California driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the direction of the Fire Marshal.
