RESOLUTION NO. 1329
A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITIES OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INVITING
PRESIDENT LYNDON B. JOHNSON AND PRESIDENT LOPEZ MATEOS
TO PARTICIPATE IN A PEOPLE -TO- PEOPLE PROGRAM ON THEIR
FORTHCOMING VISITS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO STIMULATE
INCREASED INTEREST IN SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIPS BE-
TWEEN CITIES OF THE UNITED STATES AND THOSE OF MEXICO
WHRREAS, the City of Downey hosted representatives from approximately
twenty cities of Southern California at a one day Conference in Downey on

Sunday, January 26, relative to Sister City affiliations with cities of
Mexico; and
WHEREAS, contained in the program of this Conference was an address
from Mr. C. P. Cookingham, Executive Director of the People -to- People
Program, further explaining the objectives of the People -to- People Program
in support of the Sister City relations between the cities of our Country
and those of countries throughout the World; and
WHEREAS, Senor Joege Agnesi, President of the Guadalajara, Mexico
Sister City Committee also presented a very excellent address on the accom-
plishments of friendship and informed knowledge leading to better relations
as a result of the Sister City Program between Mexican cities and those of
United States; and
WHEREAS, it is our understanding that both President Lopez Mateos of
Mexico and President Lyndon B. Johnson will be in Los Angeles on February
20 to 23, 1964; and
WHEREAS, it was the belief of all the municipal representatives
attending the above Conference that it would be to the benefit of the United
States and to the Country of Mexico if those cities in Southern California
who are affiliated with cities in Mexico could send representatives for a
luncheon or dinner meeting with President Johnson and President Mateos dur-
ing their visits in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, if this meeting is possible, the City of Downey will be happy
to make the arrangements for the location, time,and supply any information
and send any invitations, as suggested by the People -to- People Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOWNEY, having unanimously concurred with the wishes of the twenty cities
present at the Sister City Conference on Sunday, January26, do hereby cause
this Resolution to be sent to President Lyndon B. Johnson and President
Lopez Mateos and to officials of the People -to- People and Sister City
Programs so that early arrangements may be completed for a "Sister City
Meeting" during these days.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 28th day of January, 1964.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing restitution was adopted at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the City of Downey held on the 28th day of
January, 1964, by the following vote:
