A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
REQUESTING THE EXPENDITURE OF COUNTY AID TO CITIES
FUNDS FOR VARIOUS STREETS WITHIN THE CITY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is hereby requested that the County of Los Angeles
finance the hereinafter specified street improvement projects out of
County Aid to Cities Funds, and advance to said City the amount of
aid specified for the projects described below. The nature of the
projects, the estimated cost thereof, and the reasons for its improve-
ment are set forth hereinafter:
a. The widening of Downey Avenue at various locations between
Florence Avenue and Gallatin Road.
i. This project entails the acquisition of right of way and
the construction of curb, gutter, cross gutters and
pavement widening to an estimated 0.61 miles of street
improvement.
ii. It is proposed that the major portion of the right of
way will be acquired gratis, and that construction will
be accomplished by contract resulting from competitive
bidding procedures. The total estimated cost of the
acquisition and construction amounts to approximately
$86,000.00, $6,000.00 of which is requested to supplement
funds already budgeted for the acquisition of right of way
and construction.
iii. Downey Avenue as shown on the Master Plan of Highways as
being an 80' street with additional right of way to be
acquired.
b. The widening of Gardendale Street westerly of the intersection
of Brookshire Avenue to the intersection of Dolan Avenue, being
a total distance of approximately 300'.
i. This project entails the construction of cement concrete
curb and pavement widening.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures for an estimated cost of
$4,300.00.
iii. Gardendale Street as shown on the Master Plan of Highways
is an 80' street with additional right of way to be ac-
quired at certain locations.
c. The widening of Gardendale Street on the south side easterly and
westerly of Barlin Avenue for a total distance of approximately
450'.
i. This project entails construction of cement concrete curb,
gutter, cross gutter and pavement widening.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures and included as part of an
assessment district improvement to improve Barlin Avenue, for
the estimated cost of Gardendale Street improvement of $7,000.00.

d. The improvement of Imperial Highway on the north side
westerly of Dunrobin Avenue, being a total distance of
approximately 500'.
i. This project entails the construction of cement
concrete curb, gutter and pavement widening.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting
from competitive bidding procedures at an estimated
cost of approximately $10,000.00, $5,000.00 of which
is requested from the County Aid to Cities Funds.
iii. Imperial Highway is shown on the Master Plan of High-
ways as being a 100' street with additional right of
way to be acquired at certain locations.
e. The widening of Stewart and Gray Road along the north side
westerly of the intersection of Old River School Road; and
the widening of Old River School Road along the west side
northerly of the intersection of Stewart and Gray Road, hav-
ing a total distance of approximately 950!.
i. This project entails the construction of cement concrete
curb, gutter, cross gutter and pavement widening.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures for an estimated cost of
approximately $18,000.00, $9,000.00 of which is requested
from County Aid to Cities Funds.
iii. Old River School Road and Stewart and Gray Road are both
shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being 80' streets
with additional right of way to be acquired on Stewart and
Gray Road at certain locations.
f. The widening of Paramount Boulevard on the east side between
Lubec Street and Florence Avenue.
i. This project entails the acquisition of right of way.
ii. This work will be accomplished by purchase or through con-
demnation proceedings at an estimated cost of $8,000.00.
iii. Paramount Boulevard is shown on the Master Plan of Highways
as being a 100' street with additional right of way to be
acquired at certain locations.
g. The widening of Paramount Boulevard on the west side in the
vicinity of 12065 and 12067 Paramount Boulevard, having a total distance
of approximately 300'.
i. This project entails the construction of paving.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures for an estimated cost of
approximately $2,500.00.
h. The improvement of Paramount Boulevard by the up -- grading of
Traffic Signals at the intersection of Florence Avenue and
Paramount Boulevard.
i. This project entails the up- grading of Traffic Signals at
the intersection of Florence Avenue and Paramount Boulevard
to aid in reducing the existing traffic congestion problem
in this vicinity.

ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting
from competitive bidding procedures at an estimated
cost of $6,000.00.
i. The widening of Old River School Road along the west side
northerly of the intersection of Quill Drive, having a total
distance of approximately 1800'.
i. This project entails construction of pavement.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting
from competitive bidding procedures, having an estimated
cost of $9,000.00.
j. The improvement of Stewart and Gray Road by the installation
of Traffic Signals at the intersection of Rives Avenue and
Stewart and Gray Road.
i. This project entails the installation of Traffic Signals
at the intersection of Rives Avenue and Stewart and Gray
Road to aid in the reduction of an existing traffic prob-
lem.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures, at an estimated cost of
$12,000.00.
k. The improvement of Telegraph Road by the installation of Traffic
Signals at the intersection of Serapis Avenue and Telegraph Road.
i. This project entails the installation of Traffic Signals at
the intersection of Serapis Avenue and Telegraph Road to aid
in the reduction of an existing traffic problem.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from
competitive bidding procedures, at an estimated cost of
$14,000.00, $3,500.00 of which is requested from County Aid
to Cities Funds.
1. The widening of Stewart and Gray Road along the south side easterly
and westerly of the intersection of Pomering Road, having a total
distance of approximately 230'.
i. This project entails the construction of pavement.
ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from com-
petitive bidding procedures, at an estimated cost of $2,600.00.
SECTION 2. The projects described above have been found and are hereby
determined to be of general Los Angeles County interest.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the acb ption of this reso-
lution and forward a certified copy thereof to Mr. N. H. Templin, Los
Angeles County Road Commissioner.
