HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1137 1747 RESOLUTION NO. - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING EQUALIZATION OF THE MAYO -BREED FORMULA FOR GASOLINE TAXES WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors acted on March 19, 1963, to support Assembly Bill 1958 which recommends changing the Mayo -Breed Formula from a 55 -45 split to a 60% South and 40% North sharing of gasoline taxes collected; and WHEREAS, this proposal is considerably more equitable than the existing system due to the rapidly expanding southern California area and the consequent acceleration and demand for roadway construction and maintenance and financial resources necessary for this purpose; and WHEREAS, the existing formula has resulted in a deficiency of adequate funds to maintain our City streets amounting to many millions of dollars, in which condition we are steadily felling farther behind. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That it endorses and supports the action of the Board of Supervisors of Los Angeles County in proposing an equalization of the sharing of gasoline taxes and strongly urges its legislative representatives to work for such legislation. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and cause copies to be forwarded to State representatives at Sacramento for this City.
