RESOLUTION NO. -
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DOWNEY URGING EQUALIZATION OF THE MAYO -BREED
FORMULA FOR GASOLINE TAXES
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors acted on
March 19, 1963, to support Assembly Bill 1958 which recommends
changing the Mayo -Breed Formula from a 55 -45 split to a 60% South and
40% North sharing of gasoline taxes collected; and
WHEREAS, this proposal is considerably more equitable than the
existing system due to the rapidly expanding southern California
area and the consequent acceleration and demand for roadway construction
and maintenance and financial resources necessary for this purpose; and
WHEREAS, the existing formula has resulted in a deficiency of
adequate funds to maintain our City streets amounting to many millions
of dollars, in which condition we are steadily felling farther behind.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That it endorses and supports the action of the Board
of Supervisors of Los Angeles County in proposing an equalization of
the sharing of gasoline taxes and strongly urges its legislative
representatives to work for such legislation.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and cause copies to be forwarded to State representatives at
Sacramento for this City.
