HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1134 .1744 RESOLUTION N O . / A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY OPPOSING THE SEGREGATION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA INTO REGIONAL PLANNING DISTRICTS -- WHEREAS, Senate Bill 856 as introduced would create Regional Planning Districts in each of nine regions of the State as determined by a State Planning Office and would authorize the levying of an equal ad valorem property tax by such Regional Planning Districts and repeal existing provisions for regional planning; and WHEREAS, this proposal would supercede existing arrangements under which a commendable degree of cooperation has ensued between the juris- dictions of this area, replace it with an unknown and untried level of super - metropolitan government; and WHEREAS, this proposal directly contravenes a traditional, accepted and effective American system of home rule as it has always existed in the State of California. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That it expresses it opposition to Senate Bill 856 and all similar legislation. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and cause copies to be forwarded to State representatives at Sacramento for this City. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this day of _ v , 1963.
