A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
ORDERING CERTAIN LIGHTING FIXTURES AND APPLIANCES ON
CERTAIN STREETS AND PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF DOWNEY,
TO BE MAINTAINED AND ELECTRIC CURRENT TO BE FURNISHED
FOR LIGHTING SAID FIXTURES AND APPLIANCES FOR A PERIOD
OF TWENTY YEARS (DOWNEY CITY LIGHTING DISTRICT)
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Downey, on December 26,
1962, adopted Resolution No. 1070 declaring its intention to order
those certain improvements aforesaid; and
WHEREAS, on December 26, 1962, the City Council, by Resolution
No. 1071 appointed the hour of 8 :00 A.M., January 22, 1963, in the
Council Chamber of the City Hall of the City of Downey, as the time
and place for hearing protests in relation to said proposed improve-
ment; and
WHEREAS, on January 22, 1963, at the time and place as specified
a public hearing duly was held in relation to said improvement all in
accordance with said Resolution No. 1071, notice having been duly given
of said hearing in the manner required by law; and
WHEREAS, at said hearing the City Council did pass upon all
written and oral protests made in reference to said improvement.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The boundaries of the Downey City Lighting District are
described on Plan 2 and Exhibit "A" attached hereto and by this reference
incorporated herein and made a part hereof, the same as though set forth
in full.
SECTION 2. The proposed improvement shall be for a period of twenty
years beginning January 31, 1963, and ending January 31, 1983.
SECTION 3. The proposed improvement consists of the furnishing of
maintenance and energy for street lighting throughout the District as
described in accordance with the Preliminary Report of the Director of
Public Works and as approved by the City Council.
SECTION 4. The estimated cost of said improvement for the first
year is $49,714.70.
SECTION 5. The entire estimated cost of said improvement for the
first year shall be borne by the District except that the City will need
to lend the District an amount equal to $8,635.25 during the period from
the beginning of the District to November 30, 1963, which said amount
shall be reimbursed following the collection of tax monies.
SECTION 6. That the estimated cost proposed to be borne by the
District shall be paid by special assessment taxes levied upon all lands
and improvements within the District.
—` SECTION 7. It hereby is ordered that said proposed improvement as
described and set forth in Resolution No. %/' .'t and in the Preliminary
Report of the Director of Public Works submitted pursuant to Resolution
No. 1067 be made in the manner and at the times prescribed by law.
SECTION 8. That the City Council hereby finds that the Southern
California Edison Company is the only contractor practically capable of

serving the street lighting system to be improved in the manner pro-
vided for and as described herein and the Southern California. Edison
Company is subject to the jurisdiction of the Public Utilities Com-
Mission of the State of California. It, thereby, is ordered that the
improvement of the said Lighting District be carried out in accordance
with said plans and specifications by the Southern California. Edison
Company.
SECTION 9. It further is ordered that the Mayor hereby is authorized
and directed to execute the contract with the Southern California. Edison
Company for the improvement in accordance with said plan and specifications
and in accordance with rates and rules filed by said Company from time to
time with the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California..
SECTION 10. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution and cause a. certified copy thereof and the map or plan of
the District to be filed with the assessor whose roll is used for the
levy and with the State Board of Equalization and, further, shall cause
a copy of this resolution to be published once in the "Downey Live Wire ".
