HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 0996 RESOLUTION NO. 996 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY REQUESTING THE EXPENDITURE OF COUNTY AID TO CITIES FUNDS FOR VARIOUS STREETS WITHIN THE CITY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is hereby requested that the County of Los Angeles finance the hereinafter specified street improvement projects out of County Aid to Cities Funds, and advance to said City the amount of aid specified for the projects described below. The nature of the projects, the estimated cost thereof, and the reasons for its improvement are set forth hereinafter: a. The improvement of Bellflower Boulevard by the installation of Traffic Signals at the intersection of Dalen Street and Bell- flower Boulevard. i. This project entails the installation of Traffic Signals at the intersection of Dalen Street and Bellflower Boulevard to aid in reducing an existing traffic congestion problem in this vicinity. ii. The work will be accomplished by contract resulting from competitive bid procedure, at an estimated cost of $13,000.00, $7,000.00 of which is requested from County Aid to Cities Funds. iii. Bellflower Boulevard is shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being an 80' street with all right of way dedicated. b. The improvement of Brookshire Avenue by the installation of Traffic Signals at the intersection of Brookshire Avenue and Stewart and Gray Road. i. This project entails the installation of Traffic Signals at the intersection of Brookshire Avenue and Stewart and Gray Road to aid in reducing an existing traffic problem. ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from com- petitive bid procedure, at an estimated cost of $12,000.00. c. The widening of Gardendale Street on the south side, easterly and westerly from Blodgett Avenue, having a total distance of approxi- mately 450'. i. This project entails the construction of cement concrete gutter, cross gutter and pavement widening. ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from compet- itive bidding procedure, for an estimated cost of $7,000.00. iii. Gardendale Street is shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being an 80' street, with additional right of way to be acquired at certain locations. d. The widening of Stewart and Gray Road along the north side at its intersection with Susan Avenue and Haro Avenue, for a total distance of approximately 500'. i. This project entails the construction of cement concrete curb, gutter, cross gutter and pavement widening. ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from compet- itive bid procedure for an estimated cost of $9,000.00. 15 3 iii. Stewart and Gray Road is shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being an 80' street with portions of right of way yet to be acquired. e. The widening of Woodruff Avenue along the easterly side, northerly from Foster Road, having a total distance of approximately 600'. i. This project entails the acquisition of right of way and the construction of cement concrete curb, gutter and pavement widening. ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from competitive bid procedure, for an estimated cost of $10,000.00. iii. Woodruff Avenue is shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being a 100' street with additional right of way yet to be acquired. f. The widening and improvement of Imperial Highway between Paramount Boulevard and Brock Avenue, at a total distance of approximately 600'. i. This project entails the acquisition of right of way and the engineering design for the improvement of Imperial Highway. ii. This work will be accomplished by force account, and by City forces, and /or by condemnation proceedings through the Superior Court, at an estimated cost of $20,000.00. iii. Imperial Highway is shown on the Master Plan of Highways as being a 100' street with portions of right of way yet to be acquired. g. The widening of Paramount Boulevard along the easterly side, southerly from Cole Street, a distance of approximately 500'. i. This project entails the construction of cement concrete curb and pavement widening. ii. This work will be accomplished by contract resulting from compet- itive bid procedures for an estimated cost of $5,000.00. iii. Paramount Boulevard is shown on the Master Plan of i w s as H h a g Y being a 100' street with additional right of way yet to be acquired. SECTION 2. The projects described above have been found and are hereby determined to be of general Los Angeles County interest. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this reso- lution and forward a certified copy thereof to Mr. N. H. Templin, Los Angeles County Road Commissioner.
