RESOLUTION NO j' `
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
APPROVING STATE SENATE REAPPORTIONMENT
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Downey has just been
informed that Supervisor Bonelli has filed the official request of the
Attorney General to prepare the title and summary of the initiative
constitutional amendment for equitable representation in the California
State Senate; and
WHEREAS, Los Angeles County with its 6.5 million residents needs
more than one Senator to adequately and fairly represent the County --
the initiative proposal calls for creation of 10 new Senatorial posts in
heavily populated state areas now meagerly represented in the Upper
House -- (the plan would give Los Angeles County a total of 6 Senators and
San Diego, Orange, San Francisco, Alameda and Santa Clara Counties two
each, with one Senator for each of 34 other districts);
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Downey actively
support the initiative amendment; and
SECTION 2. That on the first day of circulation of said petition
there be an official signing by the members of the Downey City
Council in the Council Chamber in order to demonstrate to the citizens
of Downey the unqualified support of the members of this body for the need
of this initiative petition; and
SECTION 3. That they request every registered voter of the City of
Downey to immediately sign the initiative reapportionment petition.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of May, 1962.
