HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 0810 -- RESOLUTION NO.j A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY FAVORING AN EARLY SELECTION OF A PERMANENT SITE FOR THE SOUTHEAST REGIONAL DISTRICT COURT WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has recently adopted a reorganization of the Los Angeles County Superior Courts whereby they established the Southeast Regional District Court, and WHEREAS, it is desirous that a permanent adequate Court be built at the earliest possibre date with appropriate facilities for civil and criminal litigation as well as adequate facilities to house the offices of the County Clerk, District Attorney, Public Defender, Marshal's office and related facilities, and WHEREAS, the early determination of a centrally located site for a permanent location of the Southeast Regional District _„ Court would mean a tremendous saving in time and money for litigants, witnesses, and all law enforcement agencies, and WHEREAS, the present temporary facilities of the South- east Regional Court in Compton and South Gate are grossly in- adequate in physical facilities and man power for the existing case load, and WHEREAS, said facilities are further without criminal jurisdiction, and are located in a location grossly unfair to the largest segment of the population of the Southeast Regional District, and WHEREAS, it is desirous that said permanent site for said Southeast Regional District Court be both in the geographical as well as the population center of the Southeast Regional District Court area. ._ _ 1272 NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Said City Council respectfully requests the Honorable Judge Louis H. Burke, presiding judge, Los Angeles County Superior Courts, and the "" Honorable Supervisor Ernest E. Debs, Chairman of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and their respective staffs take steps at the earliest possible date to acquire a site for a new Superior Court House with all necessary facil- ities for said Southeast Regional District Court, and that such site be located in the City of Downey. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution, and cause certified copies thereof to be forwarded to the Honorable Judge Louis H. Burke and to the Honorable Supervisor Ernest E. Debs and to such other persons as may be deemed advisable. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this r day of , 1961.
