HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 0807 RESOLUTION NO. 807 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY COMMEMORATING THE RESOLUTION OF THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS, JUNE 14, 1777, WHICH ADOPTED THE SYMBOL AND DESIGN WHICH BECAME THE FIRST FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, NATIONAL FLAG WEEK - -JUNE 11 -17, 1961 WHEREAS, June 14th, 1961 is the 184th anniversary of the birth of the First Flag of the United States of America; and WHEREAS, laws have been written to govern the display of the flag and to insure proper respect for it through the years of its growth from 13 stars to 50 stars; and WHEREAS, the Flag of the United States is reflective of constant strength, individual freedom, government by law in the interests of all people above special group interests; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. In association with the Directorate of the Star - Spangled Banner Flag House Association, that June 11 through June 17, 1961, be National Flag Week; and that this period be commorative of the Resolution of the Continental Congress, June 14, 1777, which adopted the symbol and design which became the First Flag of the United States of America.
