Chairman Dn. Mario Guerra, Vice Chairman Luis Marquez, Bob Ciatti,
Lars Clutterham, Tom Davidson, Calvin Davis, Julia Emerson, Sally Flowers, Jesse
Kalashyan, Bill Kalpakoff, Janet Molinaro, Robert Rubio, Sylvia Southerland, Nancy
Swenson. Others in attendance were: Desi Alvarez, Michael Finn, Jonathan Leonard,
Robert Phillips, Dan Pruitt.
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
On a motion by Task Force Member Robert Rubio, seconded by Member
Swenson and without objection, the minutes of the May 5, 2009 meeting were
approved.
2. REVIEW GOALS AND ASSIGN TASK TO MEMBERS:
Mr. Alvarez provided a brief overview of the operational guidelines under which the
task force operates. The task force is to function on a democratic basis with all the
members agreeing on the work product of the task force. The task force should
keep in mind that it needs to find a few specific work products that it will develop
and recommend to the City Council for implementation. Responsibility for
developing work product lies with the task force as the task force does not have
resources other than those the City Council may specifically authorize. The task
force will meet the first Tuesday of the month through May of 2010.

A board discussion of possible topics for the task force to study/undertake took
place. Items discussed focused on sustainability, conservation, education, and
cost effectiveness.
No consensus was reached on what each term meant or implied nor what it would
be applied to. For example, when discussing conservation does it focus on
reduced water consumption or use of less energy or use of less paper.
Vice Chairman Marquez reminded the task force that it need to define a set of
priorities, and within the next year develop a comprehensive recommendation to
the City Council. The Vice Chair emphasized that the task force might want to
select two or three specific areas such as an educational program and a
conservation program to work on.
The task force by consensus decided to create two working groups; one focusing
on education and one on sustainability. The education working group consists of
Lars Clutterham, Tom Davidson, Julia Emerson, Jesse Kalashyan, Jonathan
Leonard, Janet Molinero, Robert Rubio, and Nancy Swenson. The group selected
Lars Clutterham as its Chair. The sustainability working group consists of Bob
Ciatti, Calvin Davis, Michael Finn, Sally Flowers, Bill Kalpakoff, Robert Phillips,
Dan Pruitt, and Sylvia Southerland. The group selected Bob Ciatti as its Chair.
The task force agreed that the Mission Statement adopted at the May 4, 2009
meeting should appear in all future task force documents.
3. TASK MEMBER COMMENTS AND REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
No specific request for future agendas were made.
