HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 409 1 578 RESOLUTION NO. 409 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY, CALIFORNIA, PERTAINING TO THE POSITION OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY WITH RESPECT TO DOCKET NO. 7984 ET AL., SOUTHERN TRANSCONTINENTAL SERVICE CASE, BEFORE THE CIVIL AERONAUTICS BOARD. AREAS, the City of Downey is a municipal corporation situated in Los Angeles County approximately ten miles north of the Long Beach Municipal Airport; and WHEREAS, the population of Downey has doubled in the last ten years to an estimated 100,000 in 1959; and WHEREAS, Downey, like so many cities located in southeastern Los Angeles County, has recently experienced tremendous growth in industrial and residential construction, and the industrial and economic outlook for the future is most promising; and WHEREAS, there is located in Downey an installation of North American Aviation, presently engaged in research and development work in connection with the guided missile program, and a plant of the Rheem`Manufacturing Company, engaged in the manufacture of aircraft subasseblies, jet engine components and guides missiles; and WHEREAS, there are also located in the City of Downey numerous industries engaged in the production and manufacture of chemicals,3ircraft parts, electrical parts and other products; and WHEREAS, the Long Beach Municipal Airport, located approximately twenty minutes by auto from the City of Downey, is the most convenient major airport for the use of the residents and businessmen of the Downey area; and -WHEREAS THE Downey area seeks new and improved air transportation at the � Y improved P Long Beach Municipal Airport; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Downey resolves as follows; SECTION 1. That the rapid industrial, residential and business growth in the City of Downey and surrounding areas has created a substantial market for air transportation. That the needs and convenience of the traveling public require that this area be provided with more adequate air transportation. That the Long Beach Municipal Airport, as the closest and most convenient major airport to the City of Downey and its residents, should be designated as a terminal or intermediate point on all domestic trunkline routes presently certificated to serve Southern California and on all domestic trunkline routes which may be certificated to serve Southern California as a result of decisions reached in the Southern Transcontinental Service Case, Dockety No. 7984, et al., to the extent that the same is legally possible within the scope of said proceeding. SECTION 2. The adoption by the City Council of this resolution is not be be co trio as towering or endorsing the application of any specific airline or t r imiliW w ti of the City of Downey is to assist the Civil Aeronautics Board in its determination of the need for new and improved scheduled airlie service between the Long Beach Municipal Airport and those cities within the scope of this proceeding.
