HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 389 54' RESOLUTION NO. 3J1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY URGING THE DEFEAT OF. ASSEMBLY BILL 919 WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 919 has been introduced; and WHEREAS, the effect of this assembly bill to permit the Con- solidated County Fire Department to take over the fire department services of various cities is contrary to the - interests of cities, in general; and WHEREAS, said bill provides that, once such services are taken over by the County Fire Department, there can be withdrawal there- from only by a vote of the people; and WHEREAS, it has been established that it is less expensive to the taxpayers for a city to furnish its own fire protection, as distinguished from having the same furnished by a Consolidated County Fire Department; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That it is respectfully urged that Assembly Bill 919 not be adopted by the Legislature of this State, as to do so would be contrary to the interests of the municipalities of this State. SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and cause a certified copy thereof to be for- warded to Assemblyman George Wilson, Assemblyman Carley Porter, the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities, the League of California Cities, State Senator Richard Richards, and Supervisor Frank Bonelli, and such other persons as the City Council may desire.
