RESOLUTION NO. 3i
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY
REQUESTING LOS ANGELES COUNTY HIGHWAY THROUGH CITIES
FUNDS FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF PORTIONS OF DOWNEY AVENUE
AND FLORENCE AVENUE WITHIN THE CITY OF DOWNEY.
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors annually expends
funds for the improvement of major City streets that are a part of the County
Master Plan of Highways; and
WHEREAS, monies spent for these street improvements provide connecting
links between the various cities within the County and are therefore of gen-
eral County interest; and
WHEREAS, Downey Avenue has been designated as a County Master Plan High-
way serving the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood, Bellflower, Paramount, and
. Downey; and
WHEREAS, Florence Avenue has been designated as a County Master Plan
Highway serving the cities of Inglewood, Los Angeles, Florence, Huntington
Park, Bell, Bell Gardens, Downey, and Santa Fe Springs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That County Highway Through Cities Funds be used for the
improvement of Downey Avenue between Grant Avenue and Dempster Avenue with
the construction of concrete curbs and gutters, and widening of the pavement
to a width of 60 feet, at a cost of $12,000.
SECTION 2. The improvement of Downey Avenue is necessitated by the ever
increasing traffic from the south and the proposed improvement of several
streets intersecting Downey Avenue between Grant and Dempster Avenues, which
will add additional traffic to this connecting highway.
SECTION 3. That County Highway Through Cities Funds be used for the
improvement of Florence Avenue between Paramount Boulevard and Downey Avenue
for the completion of the acquisition of right of way, concrete curbs and
gutters, and pavement widening to a width of 80 feet, at a cost estimated to
be $38,000.
SECTION 4. The improvement of Florence Avenue between Paramount Boule-
vard and Downey Avenue will complete the modernization of Florence Avenue
throughthe City of Downey, for which the City has currently budgeted $118,000
for that portion of Florence Avenue extending westerly from Downey Avenue past
Paramount Boulevard to the Rio Hondo Channel.
SECTION 5. The City Council of the City of Downey has determined through
engineering studies that the improvement of both Downey Avenue and Florence
Avenue are of general County interest.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolu-
tion and cause a certified copy thereof, attested by the City Clerk under the
Seal of the City, to be forwarded to the Los Angeles County Board of Super -
visors of the First District.
