A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DOWNEY WITHDRAWING THE CITY OF DOWNEY AS
INCORPORATED FROM THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FIRE
PROTECTION DISTRICT.
!" WHEREAS, the City of Downey, prior to its incorporation,
on December 17, 1956, was unincorporated territory within the
i County of Los Angeles and,
WHEREAS, prior to December 17, 1956, said area,. now
incorporated as the City of Downey, was placed within, and was a
part of, the County Fire Protection District, formed pursuant to
Chapter 2, Part 3 of the Health and Safety Code of the State of
California, consisting of Sections 14400 through 14593.5 and,
WHEREAS, Section 14540 of said code now provides that
whenever any portion of a district is included within a city,
such portion may be withdrawn from the district and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Downey desires
to withdraw from said district and provide fire protection services
for said city, by a city owned and operated Fire Department, in
order to best protect the interests of the citizens of said city.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Downey
does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That the interests of the citizens of the
City of Downey and the public peace, health, safety and welfare
�,,,� of said citizens of the City of Downey best may be protected by
the City of Downey owning, operating and maintaining its own Fire
Department.
SECTION 2. The City Council of the City of Downey
hereby declares that that area hereinafter described prior to
December 17, 1956 was unincorporated territory within the County
of Los Angeles, State of California, and that on said date said
area became incorporated as the City of Downey, that pursuant
to the provisions of Section 14540 of the Health and Safety Code
of the State of California, said City Council hereby declares
that the hereinafter described area, being the incorporated area
of the City of Downey, now known as the City of Downey, hereby is
withdrawn from the County Fire Protection District.
Said area so withdrawn is more particularly described
as follows:

Beginning at the intersection of the center line of the Rio
Hondo Channel (500 feet wide) as shown on County Surveyor's Filed
Map No. 1$225, sheet 8, on file in the office of Engineer of the
County of Los Angeles, with that certain course described in deed
to the State of California, recorded in Book 35 page 436 of
Official Records, in the office of the Recorder of said county, as
having a bearing of North 16 °41 ?" West thence southerly along
said certain course to the westerly terminus of that certain course
described in said deed as having a bearing of South 75 °33'10x' West:
thence easterly along said last mentioned certain course to the
northerly terminus of that•certain course described in said deed as
having a bearing of North 14 °26'50" West: thence southerly along
said last mentioned certain course to the southerly terminus thereof;
thence southerly in a direct line to the most westerly corner of the
parcel of land described in deed to the State of California recorded
in Book 36760, page 172 of said Official Records: thence southerly
in a direct line to the most southerly corner of said parcel of land;
thence in a direct line to the most westerly corner of Lot 3 in
Block J of Tract No. 212, as shown on reap recorded in Book 14, pages
54 and 55 of Maps, in the office of said recorder; thence southerly
along the boundary of said lot to the most northerly corner of Lot 1
in said block; thence northwesterly and southerly along the boundary
•--, of the parcel of land described in deed to the State of California
recorded in Book 37281, page 303 of said Official Records, to the
northerly terminus of that certain curve therein described in said
last mentioned deed as having a radius of 250 feet; thence southeast-
erly in a direct line to the southeasterly terminus of that certain
curve in the boundary of Tract No 16548 shown on map recorded in
Book 422, pages 23 and 24 of said Maps as having a radius of 250
feet; thence southeasterly along the boundary of said last mentioned
tract to the northwesterly terminus of that certain curve therein
shown on said last mentioned map as having a radius of 30$0 feet;
thence southeasterly along said last mentioned certain curve and the
southeasterly continuation thereof and continuing southeasterly along
the boundary of said tract to the most easterly corner of Lot 23 of
said last mentioned tract; thence southeasterly along the southeast-
erly prolongation of the northeasterly line of said last mentioned
lot to the northeasterly prolongation of the northwesterly line of
Lot 21 of Tract No. 15$40, as shown on map recorded in Book 370,
pages 47 to 50 inclusive of said Maps° thence southwesterly in a
direct line to the most northerly corner of said last mentioned track
thence southeasterly in a direct line to the most northerly corner of

boundary of said last mentioned tract and the southeasterly continua-
tion of that certain curve therein shown on said last mentioned map
as having a radius of 3417 feet, to the point of tangency thereof
with the northwesterly prolongation of the northeasterly line of
Lot 40 of Tract No. 1$690, as shown on map recorded in Book 484,
pages 4$ and 49 of said Maps; thence southeasterly in a direct line
to the most easterly corner of Lot 19 of Tract No. 191$7, as shown
on map recorded in Book 499, page 17 of said Maps: thence southerly
in a direct line to the most westerly corner of Parcel 2 as described
in deed to the State of California recorded in Book 3$213, page 173
of said Official Records; thence southeasterly in a direct line
through the most southerly corner of said Parcel 2 to a line that is
parallel and concentric with and 200 feet easterly and southeasterly
measured at right angles and radially from the center line of the
strip of land, 400 feet wide as said last mentioned center line is
described in Parcel 231 in Final Judgment in favor of the Los Angeles
County Flood Control District entered in Case No. 563499 of the
Superior Court of the State of California, in and for said County;
thence southerly and southwesterly along said parallel and concentric
line and continuing southwesterly along a line that is parallel and
concentric with and 200 feet southeasterly measured at right angles
and radially from the center line of the strip of land, 400 feet
wide, as said last mentioned center line is described in Parcel 7 in
Final Judgment in favor of the Los Angeles Flood Control District en-
tered in Case No. 494541 of the Superior Court of the State of
California in and for said County to the most easterly corner of
Parcel No. 2 as described in Final Judgment of Condemnation as
entered in Case No. 327863 of the Superior Court of the State of
California in and for said County; thence southwesterly along the
southeasterly line of said last mentioned Parcel No 2 to the most

SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution and the City Manager and City Clerk shall cause
certified copies of this resolution to be filed with the State
Board of Equalization, the Board of Supervisors of the County of
Los Angeles (the governing body of said district), the County
Clerk of the County of Los Angeles, the Registrar of Voters of
the County of Los Angeles and the County Assessor of the County
of Los Angeles.
