RESOLUTION NO./,3
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF DOWNEY REQUESTING
EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE SERVICES,
ENGINEERING SERVICES, AND OPERATIONAL
SERVICES OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY
ROAD DEPARTMENT.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DOWNEY DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Downey, pursuant
to the terms and provisions of that written agreement entitled
a - Street Maintenance" dated July 1, 1957, entered into,
by and between the County of Los Angeles and the City of Downey,
does hereby request the County of Los Angeles to provide through
the Los Angeles County Road Department the following:
1. The construction, reconstruction and /or remodeling *
of streets and bridges; as well as installation of
traffic signals, signs, stripping and painting.
2. Such extraordinary maintenance services as listed
below but not necessarily limited thereto:
a. Cleaning and sweeping of streets, alleys
and parking lots.
b. Permanent curb and sidewalk repairs.

c. Storm and flood relief measures.
d. Street light maintenance and operation.
e. Such other maintenance and operation of
city owned or controlled land, utilizing
the facilities of Road Department personnel
and equipment, which in no way will
interfere with the normal operation of the
Road Department in maintaining and
operating city streets or adjoining county
streets.
3. General and special engineering functions as listed
below but not necessarily limited thereto:
a. Inspection, testing and engineering services.
b. Right of way acquisition and engineering.
c. Road, bridge and general civil engineering.
d. Traffic and lighting engineering.
4. Any such other services as are normally performed by
the Road Department in their normal functioning as a
modern highway organization.

SECTION 2. Any and all of the above services described
above to be performed by the County Road Department upon the
request of the City Manager or his authorized representative.
Demand for services shall normally be made in writing but in such
cases as may warrant, verbal demand may initiate the action with
written confirmation to follow within a reasonable time.
SECTION 3. The services above described are limited to
r" those activities provided for in the budget adopted by the City Council.
SECTION 4. It is hereby requested that the Board of
Supervisors or its designated agency or agent approve and authorize
performance of the services requested in Section 1 of this resolution,
subject to those terms and conditions set forth in said written
agreement of July 1, 1957.
SECTION 5. If the Board of Supervisors, or the designated
agent or agency should approve and authorize the foregoing, the City
Council of the City of Downey, does hereby authorize the Los Angeles
County Road Commissioner to take all necessary steps to carry out
the foregoing.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk is directed to forward a
certified copy of this resolution to Sam R. Kennedy, Road Commissioner;
John D. Maharg, Deputy County Counsel; Robert A. Andersen,
Assistant Chief Administrative Officer; and to the Honorable Herbert
C. Legg, all of Los Angeles County.
